Life has definitely interrupted my normalcy and kept me from sharing with you all regularly. I’d apologize except that I’m not sorry for the paths God is having me travel. (In fact, Camden and I leave in less than a week for a mission to Guatemala!)
Before we leave, I want to urge you to live fully. Looking toward home.
This past Sunday, our pastor exposed the truth to us through John 14:1-11, which he proposed is often used as a typical funeral sermon.
Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God;believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also. You know the way to where I am going. (John 14:1-4)
Having recently pondered my father’s passing on to eternity as June 6th reminded us of his death two years ago, this passage affirmed my awareness of my own temporary residency here on this soil.
A passing through. And my friend, Steve, reminded me again last night.
I am a foreign missionary.
Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you. (1 Peter 2:11)
A pilgrim and an alien. Resisting the temptations and desires warring in the flesh.
Looking forward to home.
So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God.
Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.
For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. (Colossians 3:1-3)
Transferring thoughts from carnal to heavenly.
A focus on the future.
Reminding the heart.
I’m going home.
Refusing to Tiptoe
